Chapter 15: Hope

I had an awful feeling in my gut.

I didn’t trust them. I couldn’t believe they did.

I was worried that we were going to give them Nathaniel and they weren’t going to hold up their end of the bargain.

I know the worst that could happen is they end up bringing an end to vampires. They were trying to use the cure, so at least they weren’t going to kill them all.

But what if it didn’t stop at that.

What if they decided they didn’t like werewolves too?

Where did it end?

James and Constance were trying to play God, and it wasn’t right.

Jade came downstairs with a bottle of water and a sandwich. “Hungry?”

“Not really. Honestly, I feel sick to my stomach right now.”

She sighed. “I’m sorry.”

I shook my head. “I’m more worried about you. You’re probably better off putting as much distance between me and you as you can. My family is dangerous.”

“I’m not going anywhere. I’m in this now. No matter what.”

I smiled at her. “You’ve come a long way Jade. For what it’s worth, I’m glad you know about all of this. I’m not happy about what happened to you, but it’s great not having to hide anything from you.”

I hated that she was forced to become a vampire. I still regretted not telling her the truth from the start.

“I am. Happy, that is. Yes, being a vampire took time to get used to. But now that I have, I don’t know if I want to give it up.”

“You like being a vampire?”

“Don’t get me wrong, the thought of drinking blood is kind of gross sometimes. Being a vampire changed my life. It made it better. It brought me closer with Lexie.”

She grinned at the thought of Lexie.

“I’m really happy for you two. You guys are perfect for each other. And I can’t think of anyone better for either of you than each other.”

She nodded. “Yeah, she’s amazing. Honestly, I’ve liked her since before I can remember.”

I smirked. “You don’t say. I had no idea.”

She rolled her eyes. “Ha, ha. Yeah, I know. Anyway, my point is that being a vampire brought me the life I have now. It brought me friends, a girlfriend, and it made me a stronger version of myself. I don’t want that to be taken away.”

“It won’t be. We’re not going to let my grandparents get what they want. I promise.”

My head started pounding.

The mark on my neck started to burn. My hand went to it. The paste that we put over it to suppress it was gone. “I need more of the potion.”

“Got it.”

She went to get the paste.

The mark was burning more.

I fell to the ground in pain, my entire body feeling like it was engulfed in flames.

“Hope!”

The room started spinning. I felt like I was floating outside of my body.

I was losing control again.

I heard the cage door open, Jade running inside.

No, Jade. No!
